此谚语用了一个生动的比喻。“袈裟”比喻事物的外表,“和尚”比喻事物的实质。同样穿着袈裟的,可能有些不是和尚,外表相同实质可能不一样,旁人不要被假象所迷惑。相反地,和尚脱了袈裟还是和尚,外表改变了,实质可以不变。
