使至塞上

单车欲问边，属国过居延。
征蓬出汉塞，归雁入胡天。
大漠孤烟直，长河落日圆。
萧关逢候骑，都护在燕然。

王维（701－761，一说699－761），字摩诘，号摩诘居士。河东蒲州（今山西运城）人，祖籍山西祁县。唐朝诗人、画家，与孟浩然合称“王孟”，有“诗佛”之称。著有《王右丞集》《画学秘诀》，存诗约400首。
WANG Wei(701-761 or 699-761), styled Vimalakirti and dubbed Vimalakirti Buddhist. He was a native of Puzhou, Hedong County (present-day Yuncheng, Shanxi Province), whose ancestral home was Qixian County, Shanxi Province. Wang, a poet and painter in the Tang dynasty, and Meng Haoran have been known as “Wang-Meng Duet”. Wangwas praised as “Buddha of Poetry”, about 400 poems of his extant. To the Front as an Envoy

To inspect the front I drive down,
Now thru the vassal’s Chüyan Town.
Thistledown past Han Fortress flies;
Wild geese fleet into the Huns’ skies.
O’er the wild smoke lonely curls straight;
To the river the sun round sets late.
At Hsiao Pass I meet a scout; the man
Tells me the general’s at Yanjan.
